Requirements for Entering Japan from the USA
Below are the requirements for entering Japan with your pet. If your pets vetting is not in this order they will still be able to enter but the 180 days quarantine will start over the day you arrive into Japan. Quarantine can be done in Japan in your home if you live on base, in a pet sitters home on base or at an on base kennel.
Below are the requirements for entering Japan with a dog or cat
ISO Micro Chip
- If your pets micro chip is non ISO they will still be accepted by Japan since they now have scanners for most Non-ISO chips
Rabies Vaccination
- The first rabies must be administered after the micro chip is in place
- Make sure you have an actual rabies certificate signed by a vet with the lot number and expiration date
Rabies Vaccination 2
- This is a separate vaccine from the first rabies and must be done at least 31 days after the first rabies is administered
- Make sure your first rabies vaccine has not expired when obtaining this second vaccine
FAVN Results
- The FAVN can be done on the same day that you obtain the second rabies vaccination
- The FAVN results should be mailed to you or your vets office; the original results have a white label on the bottom
International Health Certificate
Health certificates are only valid for 10 days
- If obtaining off base you will need ALL of the following forms: APHIS 7001, Part A and Part C
- All forms must be stamped by the USDA office (this is different then your vet signing them)
- If obtaining on base you will need the following: Form 2209 import/export Japan and APHIS 7001
Original rabies certificates signed in either blue or red ink
You will need both rabies 1 and 2
Original FAVN results from the lab
The original FAVN results will come with a white label affixed to the bottom
Copy of your orders (to show quarantine in Japan)
Copy of your military ID (to show quarantine in Japan)
International Health certificate dated within 10 days of the flight
If done on base this should be 3 forms
If done off base there should be 5 forms
Form AC must be stamped by the USDA if the form is obtained off base (the USDA will no longer stamp the APHIS 7001 form (see USDA letter below)
